ALA & the Schneider Family Award Ceremony!!!

In June of 2023, Shannon attended the ALA conference in Chicago, IL, to accept the Schneider Family Book Award for Best Picture Book. It was a dream come true, as Shannon met three people without whom LISTEN would never have been: her agent, Allison Remcheck (and several other powerhouse agents, writers, and illustrators from Stimola Literary), her Random House editor, Jess, and her dear friend and immensely talented illustrator, Devon Holzwarth.

The storybook weekend was capped with a heartwarming luncheon, hosted by the Schneider Family Committee (the loveliest people!), and including all Schneider Award winners and honorees who were able to attend.

It was an event that will never be forgotten.

SWON CHILDREN'S LITERATURE CONFERENCE

WHAT:

Shannon will be speaking at the SWON Children's Literature Conference, a full-day regional event for library staff, educators, and anyone else who works with children or children’s literature. By combining the 27-year tradition of this event, Picture Book Read-In, with some of the methodologies handed down to them by the OKI Children’s Literature Committee, this new event will help reinvent and revitalize Children’s Literature training in their region.

The conference is designed to provide attendees with the latest information, resources, and best practices in children's literature and library services. In addition to Picture Book Read-In, a day-long binge-reading event that compiles hundreds of recent titles in one room, there will be a variety of break out sessions to choose from, covering a range of topics such as:

  • Children's literature selection and collection development

  • Storytime and programming ideas

  • Early literacy and childhood education

The conference will also provide attendees with the chance to meet and learn from prominent children's authors (like Shannon!) and other industry professionals.

WHERE: Florence, KY

WHEN:  Saturday, September 16

WHO: This event is for librarians, library staff, and educators. To register and/or view other events for the Swon Libraries Consortium, click here!
